On this program, the student will be studying the required subjects, English, Literature, Math, Science, and Social Studies. A specific amount of school work will be mailed to the teacher on certain mail dates, twice a month. The teacher will grade the work and if corrections need to be done, the student is asked to correct his/her work and return it in the next mail out package. Students are required to earn 90% and above in all subjects, and therefore, if a child does not do well on something, the teacher will show him/her what needs to be corrected so it is “A” quality. Students are not allowed to turn in “thrown together” work that shows no care and effort. If we have a special education student, we can modify the program. If there is some learning disability and the program needs to be modified for that student, we can do so. We want our students to be successful in our program and we will do whatever is needed to make sure they are successful, but at the same time, we must have students that are willing to be responsible and do their work without it becoming a family problem. Your child must WANT to be home schooled. This needs to be their choice as well as the parents.
In math, we ask that the parent grade the math lesson the student does at home. The parent does not have to teach the math but we need help in the grading of it. This is because it would not be good for a student to make an error in math, and continue, with the same error for two weeks of math work, and then turn in many lessons with the same error going throughout.
Therefore, we ask parents to have the student do a math lesson, the parent grades the lesson, the student corrects any math problems that were incorrect before he continues on to the next lesson, to make sure the lesson he is on is completely understood. Once the math lesson is completed, graded and all problems have been corrected, the student can then move on to the next math lesson.
In spelling (grades 4-7), the student will have work to do daily in this subject, and we ask the parent to give a spelling test, and grade it each Friday.
Other than math and the spelling test on Friday, the student is usually able to do the work on his/her own, with a little help now and then from our teachers. The student can contact his/her teacher via phone or email.
On the Traditional Extension Program, the student will mail his/her work in every two weeks, and it is then graded by a teacher and returned to him. While the work is traveling through the mail, the student can continue on the next two week’s assignment. He is not wasting time and waiting on the mail. He will mail a package of work and then start on the next lessons.
If you want to enroll in Plano Home School Academy, grades 4 – 8, and be on the Traditional Program, where the teacher helps the student when needed and grades the work, the cost for this program is $2,345.00 IF WE ARE PROVIDING THE BOOKS. The tuition is $1,800.00 and the textbooks cost $545.00 with shipping.
There is another way you can save money on this program! If you want to search for used textbooks, rather than getting all new textbooks from our school, you will pay only the tuition, which is $1,800.00. We will provide you with the ISBN numbers and names of the books and you can buy used textbooks online. If you are unable to find any of the books, you can always get them new from us, but most parents are successful and can find our textbooks used, online.
If you need a payment plan for either route you go, the $2,345.00 plan requires $745.00 down payment and the balance is paid out at $160.00 per month. The $1,800.00 plan requires $300.00 down payment and the balance is paid out at $160.00 per month.
