Is this a GED program, or do I receive a high school diploma?
This is not a GED program. You will earn a high school diploma from an accredited private school in Texas — North Texas Academy.
Can I go to college after finishing this school?
Yes, we have many students going on to college after graduation. You will need to take college entrance exams, just as any student would, and from those exams, the college will recommend what classes you need to take. If you are concerned about being accepted with a university, you may want to contact the university before enrolling with us. Note - You will want to mention we are an accredited private school, North Texas Academy. We are accredited with the National Accreditation Agency. If you are planning to attend a trade school after high school, contact the trade school to see if they will accept your transcript before you enroll with us.
If you are planning to attend an on-line university after high school, contact the university to see if they will accept your transcripts before you enroll with us. Some on-line universities require the GED test as an entrance exam.
In this program, can I go at my own pace?
On the Traditional Program and Parent is the Teacher Program, you can go faster than what we require if you want. Some of our students have completed a full year of school in 5-6 months. But at the same time "at your own pace" does not mean you can move slowly. Each of the above programs is designed for nine months, but we can allow twelve months if needed. We cannot allow you to take longer than twelve months on either program however.
How will I know what I am expected to do on each subject?
You will receive a checksheet (an assignment sheet) for each subject. It will show you exactly what is due and when (date) it is due. Everything is well organized and very simple to understand. If you have any questions, you may call and we will be happy to help.
What can I do if I really don’t understand the work? Can I get help?
Yes. You may call and a teacher will help you. We want you to do well in school and be successful. We want to help you.
What if the work is too difficult?
For North Texas Academy high school students in grades 9-12, the curriculum is all on the high school level. However, if a student has been in special classes or has had a problem in school academically, the curriculum will be adjusted to fit the student’s needs. The same applies to the lower grades for Plano Home School Academy.
Does this program take the same amount of time as a traditional school to complete high school?
A student is allowed to go faster than the normal scheduled program if they want. Some students complete a nine month "year" course in 5-6 months. The Traditional Program and the Parent is the Teacher Program are designed so that each grade level takes approximately nine months to complete, but we have seen many students go faster and complete all of their four years of high school in 2 1/2 to 3 years.
Can I do this extension program and later return to a public or private school?
Private schools will usually accept our courses without any problems. Public schools have different rules depending on the state and school district. Most of our students have no problems returning to a public school, but if you are concerned, you should contact the school district before enrolling with us.
Can I join the military after I’ve graduated from this school?
Yes, but you should get in touch with the branch of service that you will be joining and let them know the type of school you are attending and find out if there will be any considerations on this. Some branches of the military require 15 hours of college if you have been home schooled.
I don’t live in the U.S.A. Can I apply for this school?
Yes. You need to be fluent in the English language. We have students all over the world.
